San Ramon Man Involved In Fatal Crash

An 18-year-old San Ramon resident who was reported as suicidal and missing Tuesday morning crashed his car into a truck in Brisbane, killing a San Jose man.

A San Jose man was killed Tuesday morning after his truck was hit by a San Ramon man driving on Highway 101 in Brisbane, authorities said.

Police say at 7:01 a.m., 18-year-old Theodore Liang drifted onto the right shoulder south of the Sierra Point exit and crashed into a stalled pickup truck.

The impact killed the driver of the truck.

The victim, a 54-year-old man, had pulled over onto the right side of the freeway due to mechanical problems with his Dodge Ram.

Authorities said the man was standing in front of his truck when Liang’s Toyota Camry drifted onto the shoulder and hit the stalled vehicle.

The crash caused the victim to be thrown about 75 feet. He died at the scene.

Police say Liang had cuts on his face and minor injuries from the air bag in his car being deployed.

Liang was driving at least 55 mph when his car hit the victim’s truck, according to police.

Liang stayed in his car after the accident. He was reported missing by his brother around 6:36 a.m. Liang was considered a suicide risk, police said.

After entering Liang into the missing person system, the San Ramon Police Department was notified of the accident by the California Highway Patrol.

No charges are being filed at this time.

“After we interviewed the driver, we determined at this point that we don’t believe it was on purpose,” said Shawn Chase, CHP public officer. “He was taken to the hospital for mental conditions that need to be addressed.”
