Where Does Richmond Protest Leave San Ramon?

Where does criticism fall on a business that provides so many jobs in the area? The corporation has 3,500 employees in San Ramon alone.

While no one can dispute the horror of the Chevron Refinery explosion one year ago today, protests in Richmond over the weekend puts many workers in San Ramon in an awkward spot.

Saturday’s protests targeted the city's highest employer, with Chevron workers making up over 12 percent of total city employment.

On Saturday, environmental group 350.org organized a march in Richmond that drew nearly 3,000 people. At the end of the day, over 200 were arrested.

Protesters marched over 2.5 miles from the Richmond BART station to the Chevron refinery to decry safety issues and take a stand against fossil fuels.
