Two suspects who allegedly shoplifted over $700 worth of groceries from a San Ramon Safeway undetected were pulled over for expired plates a few hours later on Nov. 27, police say.

The two men in a vehicle with expired tags were pulled over by San Ramon Police in front of Crown Billiards sometime before 8 p.m. that Wednesday evening.

The suspects fled the vehicle, which police found contained over $700 in stolen "shampoo and alcohol" from Safeway.

Security footage from Safeway at 2505 San Ramon Valley Blvd. matched the appearance of the suspects.

The two men were arrested later that night. Arthur Cox, 35, of Oakland, was seized when he returned to the scene. Daron Poole, 49, of Antioch was caught by police in Danville shortly after trying to cross the freeway by foot, officials say.

The men were booked for burglary, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.
