Farmers Market Season Ends

No more open-air markets in San Ramon until spring.

The season came to a drizzly end for the San Ramon farmers market on Saturday.

Vendor and patron attendance was low for the last day of the market even with the fun of the Moore's Pumpkin Patch right next to the farm.

But with heavy rains until 9 a.m. and returning again at noon, it was no surprise that anyone wanted to avoid their local farmers' market, including the vendors.

The market usually opens the first Saturday in May, but this season the market opened two weeks behind schedule because of construction at Forest Home Farms Historic Park.

The unique location hosts more than 40 local food vendors, growers and artisans from the San Ramon area. As the season has flourished, the vendor participation decreased for various reasons beyond our control, thus decreasing patron attendance. For those who really appreciate the location and the market, this was a disappointment.

The future of the San Ramon Farmers Market at Forest Home Farms was dependent on the success of the 2010 season.

The market ends its fourth season with a big question mark on what the 2011 season will bring. But we hope to be the first to report to you on the future of our community as soon as we learn more.

For a list of vendors and contact information, please visit the company website, www.sanramonfarmersmarket.com.

I am a columnist for San Ramon Patch as well as the local market manager, I would like to thank the community of San Ramon for your continued support, the San Ramon Whole Foods Market and the San Ramon Historical Foundation for your sponsorship throughout the past four seasons and most of all I would like to thank our vendors.

Your presence at the market ever Saturday brought joy to my day and I had the opportunity to develop great friendships that were beyond my expectations. Thank you for supporting the San Ramon farmers market.
