Walk Raises Money for Families of Fallen Firefighters, Police

Local Pakistani nonprofit Mashal is organizing the Sept. 24 event.

Mashal, a San Ramon Valley-based Pakistani group, will host a walk this month to raise money for children of fallen firefighters.

The Sept. 24 walk is a way for the cultural nonprofit to thank first-responders and honor the legacy of those who died in the terrorist attacks a decade ago, organizers said.

Proceeds will go to the One Hundred Club of Contra Costa County, a local nonprofit that gives monetary help to families of firefighters and police officers killed in the line of duty.

Ten families in the county get help from the One Hundred Club, according to the organization's website.

This isn't the first charity walk Mashal has pulled together. Last year, after devastating floods displaced millions of people in Pakistan, . They were able to raise thousands of dollars for children in Pakistan.

For this upcoming walk, the first 500 people to register get breakfast, a T-shirt and a wristband. If you don't want to walk, Mashal is also looking for volunteer sign-ups.

Here's the rundown for those of you who plan to attend:

WHERE: Aphitheatre at Central Park, 12501 Alcosta Blvd., in San Ramon
