Storybook Contest Winners Announced Next Week

Street Smarts' annual Storybook Poster Contest to promote traffic safety has concluded. The awards ceremony will take place in San Ramon on March 10.

A contest that asks kids to draw on their street smarts for a chance to get their art printed in a storybook will announce the winners at an awards ceremony next week.

Street Smarts – a coalition that promotes traffic safety – will hold its seventh annual awards ceremony at 5 p.m. on March 10 at the , 10550 Albion Road, in San Ramon.

Winners of the contest will get their art included in a storybook about traffic safety. The book's author, , will read the story, called "The Great Zoo Escape."

KTVU Channel 2 news anchor Tori Campbell will serve as master of ceremonies. Mayors from Danville and San Ramon as well as other locla government and school officials will present this year's contest winners.

The event will end with a free raffle for all students who show up. Each student will also get a complimentary copy of "The Great Zoo Escape." They will have the chance to get it signed by Mentink and the winning artists after the ceremony.

The event was open to all San Ramon Valley students. Their art illustrates Mentink's story, which uses a kid-friendly plot to teach traffic safety.

Event Details

The exhibit hall featuring the posters of all 600 entrants will open at 3:30 p.m. Show up early to partake in some refreshments.

Registration opens at 4 p.m. in the theater lobby, where students can pick up their certificates and ribbons.

The Award Ceremony starts at 5 p.m. This is a free event and tickets are not required. However seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis for parents, students and the general public.
