Dougherty Valley High had its annual "Vietnam Day" on Friday, as juniors at the school spent the day simulating what it was like during the Vietnam era.

Over 200 hundred students who are enrolled in U.S. and A.P. U.S. History spent two weeks preparing their roles. Students acted as politicians, hippies, pro-war advocates, veterans and college students.

Real veterans who served in wars throughout the 20th century came to campus to talk with students about their experience and what it was like living during the Vietnam-era.

Taylor Kim, a Dougherty Valley junior, and Navy veteran Dave Dean talked with Patch about the day and why it's important for students to understand the Vietnam War and its legacy.

You can watch Kim and Dean in the video above.
