San Ramon Little League Falls Short in Epic Championship Game

San Ramon Little League had a large lead slip away in a 12-11 loss to Petaluma in the Division II championship game Saturday.

The San Ramon Little League All-Stars came so close to winning the Division II title on Saturday Gomes Elementary School in Fremont.

In a championship game that can be safely called epic, San Ramon led by seven runs going into the bottom of the fifth inning. But the lead evaporated as the Petaluma All-Stars scored seven times in the fifth to tie the game at eight.

Then, in the sixth, San Ramon regained the advantage, scoring three times to take an 11-8 lead.

But, once again, Petaluma fought back. Tying the score with three more runs to send the game to extra innings.

San Ramon wasn't able to score in the seventh and Petaluma completed the dramatic comeback victory, with the winning run scoring from third on a one-out single. The final score: Petaluma 12, San Ramon 11.

The teams combined for 35 hits and nine home runs (five for Petaluma, four for San Ramon) in an offensive explosion.

Petaluma now advances to the Little League West Regional All-Star Tournament.

San Ramon forced the championship game Saturday with a thrilling victory of Friday.

Down by one run in the last inning, Nic McCambridge hit a two-RBI single to give San Ramon an 8-7 walk-off victory.
