San Ramon All Stars Fly Past Danville With Big Hits

The 10-year-old San Ramon team scored 14 runs in three innings to advance in the district all star tournament.

The Star: San Ramon’s offense had no trouble scoring, but Jack Jones stood out as the star at the plate. With two two-run homers, one in the second and one in the third, Jones provided energy and results for his team. Jones has now hit four homers in three games.

The Turning Point: Once again, San Ramon wasted no time putting runs on the board. But this time the team batted in five runs in the first inning, providing a lead that only increased as the game progressed. A two-run single from Jack Hinds and an RBI double from Tanner Ruschell were the big hits early in the game that gave the San Ramon offense momentum.

The Quote: “I’m very, very pleased,” said San Ramon coach Todd Meyer. “They all have a plan in their mind when they go up to hit, and they’ve all executed very well.”

Scoring 44 runs is no easy feat. Scoring 44 runs in only 13 innings is incredible.

But that is exactly what the 10-year-old San Ramon All Star team has done in its past three games in the District 57 All Star Tournament, showing its power at the plate most recently against Danville in a 14-1 victory on Thursday.

The bats started swinging early, with San Ramon scoring five runs in the first inning. The offense received an early boost from a two-run single by Jack Hinds, an RBI double by Tanner Ruschell, and an RBI single by Jake Benno.

But it was in the second and third that San Ramon batters made their big hits. Jack Jones, who hit homeruns in both of the team’s earlier games, smashed a two-run homer in the second.

Jones came back in the third with yet another two-run homer, but not before Andrew Meyer hit one of his own.

“I’m very, very pleased,” said San Ramon coach Todd Meyer. “They all have a plan in their mind when they go up to hit, and they’ve all executed very well.”

Meyer said the pitching from Danville’s Josh Olives and Jake Putnam was not bad, but rather San Ramon’s hitters were just on their game.

San Ramon’s pitching kept Danville to only one run, batted in by a double from Rico Guevara. Starting pitcher Brenden Schooley threw all four innings and allowed only three hits and one walk.

“He was throwing strikes, getting ahead of the count, and taking advantage of our defense that didn’t make any errors,” said Meyer.

San Ramon is now only one game away from making it to the district tournament finals, with the match-up against Tassajara Valley on Wednesday the only remaining obstacle.

Meyer anticipates a tough game with excellent pitching from both sides, but he hopes San Ramon can continue its winning streak.

With its loss, Danville drops to the elimination bracket to face Livermore National on Tuesday.
