Monte Vista and San Ramon sweep NCS D1 Girls Cross County Championship

In a surprise come-from-behind win, the Monte Vista High School girls took home the NCS Division I pennant today at Hayward High, beating league rival and EBAL champions Amador Valley. 

San Ramon Valley High, ranked #4 going into the contest, also had a strong performance and finished in second. 

Both teams qualified for the State Championships to be held next Saturday in Fresno. 

Monte Vista's team was lead by Brooke Starn, who took third in the race with a time of 17:54 (7th fastest of all time on the Hayward High 3-mile course). 

Monte Vista freshman standout Meredith Corda took 7th overall with a time of 18:21. 

Strong performances by Madi Jeha, Cat Kiser, Erin Herting, Emily Gines, and Caroline Carey helped the Mustangs bring home the victory with a score of 81. 
San Ramon's Christine Bayliss had a stellar first place finish with a time of 17:30 (the second fastest time ever run on the course) and her teammate Carly Lutz's 6th place finish helped the Wolves edge out the Amador Valley Dons by just 3 points. 

After the awards ceremony, the crosstown rivals posed together with their coaches.
