Little League: San Ramon 12s Drop to Losers' Bracket with 5-2 Defeat

Hollister's Sotelo stumps the San Ramon 12 year-olds at the Divisional tournament.

Hollister 5, San Ramon 2

Records: Hollister (2-0), San Ramon (1-1)

The Star: Hollister starting pitcher Andrew Sotelo gave up a lead-off walk to the first batter of the game. That was the only walk he gave up all day, as he pitched a gem, striking out ten and giving up just two hits.

The Turning Point: Hollister used a two-out rally in the bottom of the fifth to push a one-run lead to a three-run advantage, and with Sotelo being pulled with two outs in the top of the sixth, it was far too late.

The Quote: "He threw great. A couple of different pitches kept us off balance," San Ramon manager Dave Jew said. He threw it by us a couple of times. Hats off to him, he did a great job."

Who's Next? San Ramon will play River Park Monday at 8 p.m., and will need a win to avoid elimination.

The Bottom Line: San Ramon is a loss away from elimination.

————————

There wasn't really anything San Ramon could do in its loss Sunday.

Andrew Sotelo of Hollister's array of pitches got San Ramon to strike out ten times, and held it to just two hits in a 5-2 loss in the 12 year-old Northern California Divisional Tournament in Vacaville.

"We didn't hit the ball like we normally do," San Ramon manager Dave Jew said. "We were chasing a little bit, we just got to get a little more distance. We'll be fine."

San Ramon scored the first run of the game with Devin Rocha singling in Tommy Jew for an early lead, but stranded a pair of runners in scoring position.

Matt Ramirez belted a homer to deep center in the fourth, but those were the only two times San Ramon made good contact with the ball, thanks to Sotelo's great outing.

"He's tough as nails, he loves the pressure and loves the hype and he delivers for us time and time again," Hollister manager Anthony Sotelo said.

The younger Sotelo said that the "heart" of his team made the difference

"Our team did good together. We played as a team," Sotelo said.

San Ramon's Tommy Jew came in relief in the first inning and struck out the first four batters he faced before running into trouble in the third inning and being pulled in the fourth.

"I thought I did pretty good but I missed a couple of my spots," he said. "My defense did great, so I can't ask for much more."
