Little League All Stars: San Ramon 10s Take District 57 Title

Dublin was no match for San Ramon in the championship game of the district tournament.

The Star: Once again, San Ramon relied on an outstanding performance on the mound. It came from starter Zach Chalmers, who threw a complete-game shut out and allowed two hits.

The Turning Point: In the top of the second inning, the score was tied 0-0. After Nicholas McCambridge doubled to right field to lead off the inning, San Ramon's relentless offense kicked into gear. Both McCambridge and teammate Matt Jew capitalized on mistakes from Dublin catcher Ryne Zapotoczny, as both runners would score on past balls to put San Ramon's first runs on the board.

The Quote: "The boys are always focused, eager to run," said San Ramon coach Jeff Santos. "And speed on the bases is the best thing you can have as a team."

In order to be champions of the 10-year-old District 57 All Star Tournament, San Ramon had to win two back-to-back games against Dublin, which streaked through the winners' bracket undefeated.

After pulling out a 5-2 win on Wednesday, San Ramon had its work cut out for it Thursday night. With amazing pitching and big hits at the plate, San Ramon made its championship victory look easy as the team dominated Dublin 11-0.

San Ramon relied on starting pitcher Zach Chalmers, who threw all five innings, gave up no walks and two hits.

"He threw 53 pitches and a complete game," San Ramon coach Jeff Santos said. "He was definitely the star ... and he's been a number one pitcher for me consistently."

Chalmers was also productive at the plate, scoring twice and driving in a pair of runs with a fifth-inning base hit.

The San Ramon offensive was not short of heroes. Capitalizing on mistakes by Dublin, both Nicholas McCambridge and Matt Jew scored for San Ramon on past balls in the second inning.

The San Ramon players proved themselves to be aggressive base runners, with players taking the extra base whenever they could.

"The boys are always focused, eager to run," Santos said. "And speed on the bases is the best thing you can have as a team."

Dublin's pitchers could find no answer to the San Ramon's hitters, in particular,  Sam York who had a triple and three hits.

Santos said because team has been together for multiple years, it is a big advantage. He also credited the players' training.

"We spend a lot of money on training with (San Ramon) Little League and it has really paid off for us," he said.

As the champions of District 57, San Ramon will move on to the Section 3 All Star Tournament which begins July 17 in Fremont and is being hosted by Mission San Jose.
