After Castro Valley led off the scoring with a touchdown in the second half, but Washington ran (10 yards) for a score and caught a touchdown (15 yards) as the Grizzlies pulled away. Junior running back Karis Johnson scored a four-yard touchdown and finished with 55 yards on five carries.

The Grizzlies don't play this week and start East Bay Athletic League play on Sept. 30 against Foothill (1-2).

DOUGHERTY VALLEY 48, NORTHGATE 19

After a somewhat surprising loss to Valley Christian of Dublin last week, the Dougherty Valley High football team bounced back in a big way on Friday.

The Wildcats (2-1) turned in one of their most complete performances in school history with a 48-19 win against Northgate at home.

From a statistical standpoint, Dougherty wasn't necessarily dominant — it out-gained Northgate 308-274 — but the scoreboard showed otherwise.

Xavier Vaesau scored three quick touchdowns as the Wildcats jumped out to a big lead early. After Josh Figueroa caught a five-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Eastman, Dougherty led 28-0 in the second quarter.

Northgate answered with a touchdown before the half, and cut the lead to 28-13 in the third, but Vaesau's fourth touchdown gave Dublin a 22-point cushion headed into the fourth.

Figueroa and Eastman hooked up against on another five-yard touchdown and Austin Larkin recovered a fumble in the end zone as the Wildcats pulled away in the fourth.

In what figures to a less challenging game this week at home against Oakland — Oakland (0-2) was blasted 52-6 on Saturday by Washington-San Francisco — the Wildcats have a good opportunity to improve to 3-1 before Diablo Foothill Athletic League play begins at Campolindo on Sept. 30.

Vausau finished with 77 yards on 14 carries and Jordan Hashimoto added 53 on seven carries.
