District 57 Big League Team Advances to Western Regionals

Local athletes competing for a chance to play in Little League World Series.

The California District 57 Big League team, consisting of players from Livermore, San Ramon and Danville, has advanced to the Western Regionals by winning the Northern California Championships earlier this month with a 3 – 2 victory over District 59 at American River College.

District 57 will now represent Northern California in Bremerton, Wash. with a birth to the Little League World Series on the line. Pool play began Sunday. Play continues with games on Monday and Tuesday. The top two teams in each pool will square off in the semifinals on Thursday, with the Western Regionals Championship game being played on Friday. The winner of that game will advance to the Little League World Series, starting July 25th in Easley, South Carolina.

District 57 started the all-star season by winning the sectional tournament in Union City, with a 4 – 1 victory against District 45, a team that qualified for the World Series last year.

This year, District 57 has compiled a 6 – 0 tournament record while outscoring their opponents by a score of 44 – 9. The team won their first game Sunday in Washington against Arizona by the score of 2 - 1 in 10 innings.

Congratulations to the players and coaches for a job well done. Here is the link to the Western Regionals to follow the team: http://www.littleleague.org/series/2012divisions/blbb/qualify/uswest.htm
