'Henry the Heron' Visits Vista Grande Elementary School in Danville

Henry the Heron visits Vista Grande Elementary!

The second grade class of student-teacher Miss Musante has been reading, “The Most Unusual Pet Ever, Henry our Great Blue Heron and his adventures.”

It was my pleasure to read the last two pages to them on Friday, and answer all their questions. It's always fun to see the kids standing next to Henry’s “cardboard-cut-out-version” and realize that this bird is as tall as they are!

Every student had written down a question to ask. One of my favorites was, “If you could give Henry one gift, what would it be?” My answer was, “the gift of speech!” I have a lot of questions and would love some answers! Like where is your nest and how old are you and what are you thinking while your'e staring at us through the back door?

The best part of sharing the story of Henry, is seeing how excited the kids get hearing about this bird. Herons do look a bit “pre-historic”, so he’s got that going for him. The kids are also very surprised to know that this bird lives nearby and they just might see him someday...but first they need to go outside and take a look!

Thank you !

So far, there have been great blue heron sightings at the Blackhawk Plaza, next to the Library on Dougherty and at the 680 Stoneridge exit. Let me know if you spot one!
