San Ramon Initiative Works to Boost Local Economy

Residents are encouraged to shop closer to home with the help of a newly-revamped local business directory.

BY JANE McINNIS

Taking an initiative to 'keep it local,' the City of San Ramon has recently revamped a business directory website for residents and visitors to explore and use.

The 'Shop San Ramon First' website works to keep sales tax dollars and business in San Ramon. This money not only benefits local business, but it also filters into local road improvements, recreational facilities and police and fire services.

"We're expanding our outreach to new businesses and current businesses," said Leigh Boyd, the city's economic development consultant.

"If our businesses are doing well, then the city is doing well and the residents are doing well. It's a win-win-win situation all around," she said.

The website also provides Google Map locations of the businesses, as well as coupons, menus and store hours.

"Through this initiative, the City of San Ramon hopes to highlight the strength of the business community, by making local offerings more accessible and vibrant," the website says.

Businesses with a license can easily be added to the directory (under 'claim/add' here.
