Vandals Destroy $10,000 High Jump Pit at Cal High

San Ramon Police are looking for the people who destroyed Cal High's high jump pit, Cal High athletic director Dave Kravitz said.

Of all things to destroy, a high jump pit?

Well, somebody decided to do just that at California High School late Friday night or early Saturday morning and San Ramon Police are investigating to try and find out who is responsible, according to Cal High athletic director Dave Kravitz.

"We have no idea why we were targeted by these vandals," Kravitz said in an email. "We do not have the approximate $10,000 needed to replace the high jump mat."

Luckily, Monte Vista High recently received a new high jump pit and is giving Cal High it's old one.

Still, Kravitz said the track and field team won't be able to practice the high jump daily without their own pit.

There was at least one piece of evidence left at the destroyed pit.

"An empty 18-pack of beer," Kravitz said.
