Student Projects on Display Thursday

The Student Recognition Project open house takes place from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bishop Ranch 3.

Submissions to the annual Student Recognition Project will be on display Thursday for the contest open house.

More than 1,000 students submitted entries to the contest organized by the San Ramon Valley Unified School District and the San Ramon Valley Business and Education Roundtable.

Anyone is welcome to attend the open house, which runs from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bishop Ranch 3, 2603 Camino Ramon, on the fifth floor.

"The event is an opportunity to view and acknowledge hundreds of projects created by high school students in the [school district]," said district spokesman Terry Koehne in a statement.

High school choral and instrumental groups will provide a musical backdrop. The event is free and there will be refreshments.

Students who signed up for the contest had 26 categories to choose from. Professionals with expertise in those categories judged the entries. .

Student winners will be announced on Thursday. Awards will be handed out at a separate gala breakfast on March 25.

The point of the program is to allow students, educators and business professionals in the San Ramon Valley to team up to promote academic excellence and prepare students for the business in the 21st Century, Koehne said.

Categories students chose from inlude: Acting, Applied Design, Architecture, Automotive, Computer Aided Drafting, Community Service, Creative Writing, Culinary Arts, Dance, Digital Art, Early Childhood Education, Entrepreneur, Fashion Design, Financial Planning/Investment, Instrumental Music, Journalism, Photography-Digital, Photography-Film, Poetry, Robotics, Science, Video Production, Visual Arts (Black&White), Visual Arts (Color), Vocal Music, Web Design
