Chess, Robotics, Soccer, Karate and Cheerleading are just a couple of the activities available for San Ramon elementary school students

San Ramon Parks and Community Services provides educational opportunities at elementary schools in San Ramon. Enhance your child’s educational experience and ignite their passion for art, drama, music, science, sports and much more. Most classes begin the week of April 15. Chess is fun and easy to learn. If you are new to chess or polishing your skills, come develop your understanding and enjoyment of the king of games. Lessons and play combine the skills of thinking with the thrill of sport. Berkeley Chess School has been teaching State Chess Champions since 1982.

I.Q. Booster – offered at Coyote Creek, Hidden Hills, Live Oak, and Quail Run during the spring quarter

Stretch the brain in mentally stimulating exercises that combine academics and play. Designed to challenge and improve general knowledge, memory and cognitive abilities, this class is a fun-filled blast!

Mad Science: Crazy Chemworks– offered at Bollinger Canyon, Coyote Creek, Hidden Hills, Live Oak for Kinders, Live Oak for 1-5, and Quail Run during the spring quarter

Use your hands as a real Mad Scientist in this whirlwind class on how a lab works! Students will learn to recognize chemical reactions and mix up a few reactive ingredients for some sensational results. We will explore the pH extremes with our Reaction Tubes in what is sure-to-be a popping experience! Create slime using the Mad Science recipe, and then enter the Slime Olympics to test your polymers. Probe the properties of light and explore some unusual applications of glow-in-the-dark technology! We will melt metal in boiling water and freeze water with just a breath of dry ice!

Rainbow Chefs: Around the World– offered at Country Club, Golden View, Hidden Hills, Live Oak, and Quail Run, during the spring quarter

Let us educate your child through the innovative world of culinary arts! Rainbow Chefs teaches life lessons through the culinary arts. Nutrition, healthy cooking/choices, meal planning, manners/etiquette, gardening and school subjects such as math, reading, writing and art are incorporated into each class. The objective of the program is to instill and empower kids with self-confidence and self-worth. This is not just a cooking class, although the kids make/cook/eat something every class. $30 materials fee payable to the instructor on the first day of class.

Robotics 101 – offered at Hidden Hills, Live Oak, Quail Run, and San Ramon Community Center during the spring quarter

Learn the basics of Robotics! This is a complete hands-on class that focuses on science, mathematics, social studies, and more! Students work in pairs and are guided each step of the way in assembling and programming their chosen robot. Small group size ensures individual attention enabling children to learn fundamental concepts in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

After School Soccer – offered at Montevideo, Bollinger Canyon, Quail Run, Coyote Creek and Hidden Hills

Join us this spring for after-school soccer fun! Each class includes age-appropriate activities: skill demonstrations, fun games and instructional scrimmages. We focus on building core soccer skills and good sportsmanship through our fun, non-competitive teaching style. Kidz Love Soccer... 'Where the score is always Fun to Fun!' Shin guards are required by the second meeting.

One-on-One Basketball – offered Quail Run, Neil Armstrong, Twin Creeks, Coyote Creek, Live Oak, Hidden Hills, Walt Disney, Bollinger Canyon and Country Club

Join ONE on ONE BASKETBALL for After School Hoops. Experienced instructors will conduct clinics, which will help you become a better player through drills, contests, and non-contact game competition. Participants will be grouped according to age.

Karate – offered at Bollinger Canyon and Montevideo

We are dedicated to teaching young people self-defense and safety awareness while building their self-esteem. Our program includes fun high-activity training including how to block, punch and kick. We also have special games to develop concentration and teamwork. Participants will gain strength, flexibility, agility coordination and self-control.

Gymnastics – offered at Live Oak and Montevideo

Learn basic gymnastic skills independently and with a group while having fun! Different gymnastics equipment will be brought to class each week. Improve strength, flexibility and coordination through fun games and exercises.

Cheerleading – offered at Hidden Hills, Quail Run and Coyote Creek

Ready… Okay! Join in on the fun and learn basic cheerleading arm movements, jumps, cheers, chants, and choreography that are full of excitement and energy. Cheerleading is a great way for students to improve self-confidence, discipline, and physical health. Students will work on their flexibility, leadership, teamwork and performance skills while shaking pom poms in a fun and encouraging environment.

Guitar – offered at Golden View & Quail Run during the spring quarter

Learn to play the guitar in this entry level class for beginners who have never played before. Participants will play familiar tunes and get comfortable with the instrument while learning basic chords and tablature.

Hip Hop Dance – offered at Montevideo, Neil Armstrong, Quail Run, and Walt Disney during the spring quarter

A high energy class! Learn the newest trends in hip hop. Master fun and funky moves to the latest hip hop music. Class begins with a warm up, across the floor progressions, and culminates with an energetic hip hop dance routine. The last day of class will feature a class performance.

Exploring Pastels – offered at Bollinger & Coyote Creek during the spring quarter

Discover how to use oil, chalk & watercolor pastels and create bright, beautiful artwork.

Drawing & Painting: Creating Animals & Landscapes – offered at Neil Armstrong during the spring quarter

Learn the fundamentals of drawing as we create a variety of animals and explore different ways to draw landscapes. Participants will select some of their drawings to practice new painting skills.

Kids Figure Drawing – offered at Golden View, Hidden Hills, and Live Oak during the spring quarter

Gain knowledge about how to draw people. Still figures, figures in motion, and proportion are discussed as we use shapes to build up our figures. Students take turns creating unique and funny poses for others to try to draw.
