San Ramon Valley Education Foundation’s 3rd Annual Read-A-Thon

The program, which has raised $65,000 for schools in its first two years, starts on Feb. 14.

Press release from the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation.

The San Ramon Valley Education Foundation is hosting its 3rd Annual Read-A-Thon:  Read with SRVEF in February. It will kicks off on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, and ends on Read Across America Day, March 2. “Read with SRVEF” is designed to help children improve their reading skills by reading more frequently, trying different types of books, and having a blast in the process.

“This is a fabulous partnership because it promotes literacy in our local community, while also raising much-needed funds for our schools,” said Terry Koehne, SRVEF board member and spokesperson for the San Ramon Valley Unified School District.

In the last two years of the “Read with SRVEF” program, students who participated read over 6 million minutes, and raised a combined $65,000 for the schools. Last year , , and schools had the most participation involving more than 50 percent of their student body. The goal this year is to have even more students reading, resulting in more money for the schools.

There will be a kickoff party held at Read Booksellers (located in the Blackhawk Plaza) on Sunday, Feb. 12 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Everyone is welcome. There will be bestselling children’s authors’ book signings, storytelling by special guests, raffle prizes and refreshments.
