Longtime School Board Trustee Decides Against Filing for Re-Election

Bill Clarkson said this will be his last term on the San Ramon Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees.

Three-term San Ramon Unified School District trustee Bill Clarkson has decided to make this his final year in office.

The real estate broker and longtime San Ramon resident was first elected in 1998 and his present terms expires at the end of December.

Three spots on the five-member school board are up for election in November. School board president Rachel Hurd, who's finishing up her first four-year term, and fellow trustee Ken Mintz have both filed their candidacy papers along with newcomer Denise Jennison, an active volunteer for local schools.

"I feel I was able to accomplish the work I was most passionate about: The reconstruction of the district's schools, especially California High School and Pine Valley Middle School in San Ramon," Clarkson said today.

Though he's bowing out of public office in the school district, Clarkson, who's also a San Ramon parks commissioner, said he plans to stay involved in local education and city politics.

Clarkson offered his endorsement of all three candidates including Jennison, whom he said "has the passion and skills to be an excellent board member."
