California Gov. Jerry Brown signed a transgender rights bill Monday that allows equal access to transgender students, including the right to pick which sports teams or locker rooms they want within school settings, according to a KCRA news report.
Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, who authored the legislation, pressed the governor to sign the bill after it had passed both chambers, and again Monday morning.
KCRA news reports, last month, lawmakers passed AB 1266, which allows the special access to transgender students. It has created controversy not only because the bill would allow transgender students to choose which bathrooms and locker rooms to use, but also because it would allow K-12 students to try out for any sports team -- based on the gender they identify as their own. What do you think about this decision in the scope of San Ramon Valley Schools?
