Danville Councilman Next Up in Speaker Series

For the third installment of the school district's Speaker Series, Newell Arnerich will offer leadership pointers to students and parents at the Monte Vista High School Theater.

The ’s 2011 Speaker Series, “The Skills and Ethics Needed for Success in the 21st Century,” continues Wednesday with a presentation by Town of Danville Councilman Newell Arnerich at the Monte Vista High School Theater.

Arnerich will share his insight on finding success as a leader in a presentation called, “Am I a Leader? You bet! You just may not know it yet!”

Arnerich’s service to the Town of Danville began more than 20 years ago when he served on the town’s Architectural Design Board and Planning Commission. He joined the Danville Town Council in 1995 and was elected Mayor in 1999, 2004 and 2008.

Arnerich also serves as Chair of the Tri-Valley Transportation Committee, Vice-Chair of the Executive Committee of the Contra Costa Mayor’s Conference and Danville’s representative to the Association of Bay Area Governments.

He’s worked as a professional architect for 32 years and is the President/CEO of an architectural firm that has offices in Oakland and Los Angeles.

The four-part Speaker Series aims to provide career advice to high school students and their parents and features presentations by local figures in government and business.

“This Speaker Series is our first attempt at providing opportunities for high school students and their parents to connect with ‘difference makers’ in our community in ways that can hopefully benefit them now and in the future,” school district spokesman Terry Koehne said.

The Speaker Series hosted The Table Group owner Pat Lencioni on March 2 at the San Ramon Valley High School Performing Arts Center and Safeway NorCal Division Manager Kevin Lovell on March 9 at the .

The final Speaker Series event, a panel discussion titled “The Next Generation Workforce – What Does it Take to Get a Great Job?” will take place on March 23 at the Theater.

The Monte Vista High School Theater is at 3131 Stone Valley Road, in Danville. All events run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and registration is required through EventBrite.

Tickets are free, but donations benefiting the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation are accepted.
