Cal High Gas Leak Originated in Driveway

About 10 minutes after locating the origin of the leak, the gas was shut off at the school.

The gas leak that led to the evacuation at California High School on Wednesday was located underground beneath a driveway entering the school's parking lot on Broadmoor Drive, according to PG&E spokesman Jason King.

After being alerted to the smell of gas at the school, PG&E arrived on campus at about 1:15 p.m. and discovered a two-inch broken gas line in the driveway.

The school was evacuated and gas to the school was turned off at about 1:25 p.m.

Students returned to class less than an hour after the gas was turned off, King said.
