Bring Home Something New From the Farmers Market

Your local farmers market provides so much more than fresh, locally grown, healthy food. Starting this Saturday, you can pick up a new cooking skill.

Your local farmers market provides so much more than fresh, locally grown, healthy food.

Starting this Saturday, you can pick up a new cooking skill and spend some time learning from a local, professional chef and become the master of your own kitchen.

One of my weekly market goals is to always try something new. I love to learn about a new fruit or vegetable from its origination, how to best prepare the food and what nutrients the produce provides. This fun habit is healthy on many levels, for myself and my kids.

Sometimes the experiment goes well, other times its questionable. But with Chef Faz on staff at the weekend market, I now have a professional to learn from. The San Ramon market has worked feverishly this season to pick up the pace and become the premier market of the East Bay.

The new location at Bishop Ranch has proved to be a very positive adjustment for the community. As the Market Manager for the past three seasons, I am excited to see the community coming together to share their passion and expertise at the new successful location.

About Chef Faz Poursohi

Poursohi's success as a restaurateur is based on his love of food and cooking that he acquired growing up in Tehran. His family took culinary matters seriously and their table was always laid with freshly baked breads, fruits and vegetables from the family farm.

"Food is about freshness and flavor – not about ingredients buried in complex combinations," he said. "Go to a farmers market and smell the fresh herbs, grow or pick vegetables off the vine when you can. This is the inspiration behind cooking."
