Poll: Obama is in Favor of Same-Sex Marriage, What do San Ramonians Think?

The president told ABC News that his thinking has "evolved" on the subject of same-sex marriage. How do you feel about his decision?

President Obama told ABC's "Good Morning America" on Wednesday that he now supports same-sex marriage.

The president—who still supports states deciding the issue on their own—said his personal views had gone through an "evolution" based on conversations with family and friends and the views of his own daughters.

"They are much more comfortable with it," the president told Robin Roberts in an interview to be shown on “Good Morning America” Thursday. Excerpts aired Wednesday night on ABC’s “World News with Diane Sawyer."

”You know, Malia and Sasha, they have friends whose parents are same-sex couples," Obama said in the interview. "There have been times where Michelle and I have been sitting around the dinner table and we’re talking about their friends and their parents and Malia and Sasha, it wouldn’t dawn on them that somehow their friends’ parents would be treated differently. It doesn’t make sense to them and frankly, that’s the kind of thing that prompts a change in perspective.”

What is your opinion of same-sex marriage? How do you feel about Obama's change of heart? Take our poll and tell us more in the comments.

Interesting how close the vote is, 16 against and 13 in favor as I type. Which is about what national polling is on the issue.

This is a matter of religious intrusion into a civil-rights issue & matters of civil-rights should never be settled by popular vote ! This is a constitutional issue & one more vote either way doesn't make either point of view correct. If it's your faith based belief that gays shouldn't marry each other that's fine, just don't try to legislate your myopic view of morality into law !! I may not share your faith, but I don't come down to your church & interfere with your right to worship as you see fit !! Mind your own damn business !!

Same goes for the Gays, they are always trying to ram thier views down our collective throats as if we are some kind of social misfits. I for one could care less if they want to marry each other but I do not agree with rasing children in a same sex household. Our boys are already on the path to being raised like wussies with all the politcal correctness going on in our schools. For christ sake they cant even play tag any more. The facts are out of 50 states 32 states banned gay marriage at the voting box, including ultra liberal California. The people have spoken and the only hope to getting that changed is finding ultra liberal judges appointed by ultra liberal politicians, Good Luck! Didnt you hear the little Marxist yesterday in his interview? he said he supported same sex marriage but it is a states right issue. Ouch! So what was really accomplished but a little more money going into the cofers. It wont matter November 6th.

So Mark, in your opinion asking for equal rights is "ramming" a view down the throats of others. Small minds breed such hatred.

Hey Judy ol Pal, I agree so your brain must be the size of pee.

Apply the golden rule, do unto others ... is the right approach. I should not dictate my views on morality to others, any more than they should to me. When I was young a marriage between a Catholic and Protestant, or between a Christian and a Jew, was considered a "mixed" marriage, severely disapproved by some. Interracial marriages were extremely rare and often disapproved. The world did not disintegrate when these unions gradually became more common, although still disapproved by some. Those who prefer to marry within their faith, or within their race, are not unduly hurt by those with other views. Hopefully within a few years same sex marriages will be the same...not for everyone, but not hurting those with more traditional views. And the love and caring from 2 same sex parents can produce children as loved, well rounded, and healthy as from male and female headed families.

There you go again, Mark, demonstrating your hatred and small-mindedness. Paul - well said!

If we look to Him who created marriage, we find that this issue was settled a long time ago. What authority do we have to change God's design even if we think it's more fair and "humane"? God's laws and commandments have a way of protecting us from the consequences of our sin. For me, as long as I have that choice, I'll stick with God's plan.

God did not create marriage. This was created by man as a social institution. To bring religion into this is only an excuse for condoning hatred. My God does not condone hatred.

Marriage was in fact instituted by God, see Matt, 19:4-6 “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? ... Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.” That is marriage as established by God and since the time of Adam understood to be marriage by man. Religion is defined as "a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, ..., and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs." (www.dictionary.com). As such, everyone has a religion that defines their moral view of the world. It would be impossible not to bring one's set of beliefs (religion) to bear when discussing marriage. Hate is not necessarily a bad thing. God is a hater, a hater of sin, not of man. See Proverbs 6:16-19 "There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet.." It is possible to hate the sin and not the sinner. Therefore please do count me as a hater, of the sin, but not of sinners. For if I would hate the sinner, I would be hating myself as well as all the people in the world. For we are all sinners in the eyes of our Lord, and only by His grace as we saved.

Flip flop flip. When Obama was in the Illinois state senate, he was for gay marriage. When he first ran for president, he was against gay marriage. Now that he is running for re-election as president, he is for gay marriage. It looks like he is for or against gay marriage depending on political convenience and money donations to his campaign.

Freedom is Freedom. Equality is equality. Can't we all just get along? Let us all live in peace. We are all part of a big family called the human race. What the world needs now is love, sweet love.
