Mayoral hopeful Bill Clarkson met with supporters at Peet's Coffee on Crow Canyon Road to collect enough signatures to put his name on the ballot.

spent Thursday afternoon at his favorite coffee haunt collecting enough signatures for his petition to get his name on the Nov. 8 ballot as a mayoral candidate.

Clarkson, who owns Golden Hills Brokers, and supporters met at on Crow Canyon Road, across the street from his real estate office.

“This is where I spend many hours meeting and talking to residents about our wonderful community," he said. "I think the choice of Peet’s Coffee reflects one of the core issues of the election – the need to engage the citizens of the city and invite them to be part of the decision-making process.”

Clarkson collected twice as many signatures as needed, he said.

The nomination period for San Ramon's city elections started Monday. Residents have until Aug. 12 to file. Up for election this year: The mayor's seat and two other council openings.

Mayor H. Abram Wilson terms out this year after eight in office. He hasn't publicly stated whether or not he plans to run for one of those council openings.

Vice Mayor/Councilman Scott Perkins pulled papers to run for re-election. His colleague, Councilwoman Carol Rowley, says she'll run for Wilson's seat.

And Phil O'Loane – a former Planning Commissioner who fought San Ramon's (failed) effort to expand the urban growth boundary into the Tassajara Valley last year – will run for council.
