More State Salaries Made Public

The State Controller released compensation figures for 256,222 state employees, 123,406 who work for CSUs.

State Controller John Chiang recently made thousands more public employee salaries, well, public.

Chiang posted online the total 2009 compensation – that's salary, pension and other benefits – for 256,222 state employees and 123,406 who work for the California State University system.

Last fall, Chiang's office published compensation figures for upward of 600,000 city and county workers. Wages of 2,379 special district employees were added a few months ago. Elected officials are included on the list.

The amounts are what each agency submitted to the state – they haven't been audited. They include minimum and max wage range, actual paid salary, applied pension formula, employer retirement contribution, employer health-care contribution and employer contribution to deferred compensation.

The website points out the people who hold more than one job on the public payroll, too.

Agencies that didn't comply with Chiang's request for compensation info are listed online and could have to cough up a $5,000 penalty.

The was last update on July 7. It includes the City of San Ramon's 2009 wages and other compensation. .

New on the site is information for the AC Transit, an Oakland-based public transportation agency that provides bus service for Alameda County and western Contra Costa County.

The agency employs 2,316 people. Journey mechanics made between $60,000 and $150,000. Administrator salaries ranged from low six-figures to $150,000.

Also new is information for the Alamo-Lafayette Cemetery District's six employees and three elected trustees.

The district's general manager took home $83,783 in wages and saw $4,833 in deferred comp and $6,697 in employer health-care contributions.

The Contra Costa County Municipal Risk Management Authority offered up salary information. The agency is an insurance management consortium for various cities in the area.

Its highest paid employee, a risk manager, made $185,1652 in take-home pay, $14,223 in employer pension contributions and $17,338 in health-care contributions.

The East Bay Delta Housing and Finance Agency was among hundreds of special districts that failed to comply with Chiang's request for compensation information. So were the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District and Criminal Justice Agency of Contra Costa County.

The housing authority gives out low-interest loans to first-time homebuyers. And the fire district serves Brentwood, Oakley, Morgan Territory, Bethel Island, Discovery Bay, Marsh Creek and Knightsen.
