It's official.
Dublin native Eric Swalwell is a congressman.
Swalwell, 31, was sworn in Thursday as part of the 113th Congress.
The former Alameda County prosecutor did a plethora of interviews on his initial day, including a live segment with politico.com. In it, Swalwell talked about how he plans to work with both Democrats and Republicans. He also discussed how he plans to co-author an assault weapons ban bill that will be introduced this month.
Swalwell also cast his first vote today. It was in a losing cause. He voted in favor of Democrat Nancy Pelosi being elected as Speaker of the House. Republican John Boehner retained that post.
Patch will be speaking with Swalwell about his first day and will have a more in-depth report.
What would you like to see Swalwell accomplish in his first term in Congress? Tell us in the comments section.
The pentagon is BY FAR the largest vacuum of money right now and needs to be brought in a bit. Make that A LOT.
So when the next murderer uses a handgun with multiple 10 round magazines (can reload and fire again in about 2 seconds), will we then be talking about banning ALL semi-auto weapons? Oh wait, the state of Illinois already is. THIS is why I support the NRA, because for you gun grabbers, it's never enough. You won't be happy until all guns are banned and confiscated.
Here's a link to a great article that explains the terms used in the gun control debate and also explains sone of the issues. It was written by someone who is uniquely qualified to speak on the subject, unlike most politicians and pundits. http://larrycorreia.wordpress.com/2012/12/20/an-opinion-on-gun-control/ Congressman Swalwell, if you happen to be reading this, please read the article before you co-sponsor useless legislation. The article also addresses "assault weapons", which essentially means "weapons that look scary".
The ONLY thing that will solve the deficit is economic growth. Increasing taxes and adding regulations WILL NOT get us there. http://pjmedia.com/instapundit/160863/ Congressman Swalwell, please take note.
Eric, I'd be very proud if you pushed for congressional reform... Congressional Reform Act of 2012... fell off the radar... How about Congressional Reform Act of 2013?? 1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office. 2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose. 3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do. 4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%. 5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people. 6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people. 7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 02/1/13. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women.
You get out of Social Security relative to what you paid into it, so an elderly parent of an immigrant can't draw on it. You are probably thinking of SSI or Medicaid two entirely different programs. Well that or just echoing crap you hear from the internets without fact checking it first.
He was oversold to the voters, who were also hamstrung by the lack of choices on the ballot, made worse because there really was no opposition party candidate. And now it looks like Swalwell is following Speier's lead when it comes to gettng her name out to her constituents and basically attaching her name and image to an issue. Sorry, but I am not going to congratulate Mr. Swalwell who appears to be nothing more than some self-aggrandizing politician. I can't wait until it is time for gerrymandering and hopefully Livermore will be re-districted out of this sycophant's district and into some other toxic mess that seems to be the congressional elections these days.
Do you label anyone who disagrees with you a left-winger? Is that some kind of childish insult on your part? So pathetic.
Did you read the preface to this article? "Dublin native Eric Swalwell experiences his first day as a congressman, discusses how he'll work and an assault weapons ban he plans to co-sponsor. "
