Flex Alert: Dial Back Energy Use During Peak Hours

A Flex Alert has been issued for San Ramon, Danville and the rest of Northern California during the current heat wave.

It's tempting to blast the air conditioner to stay cool during this heat wave, but residents are being asked to dial back their energy use during peak hours.

The California Independent System Operator, which monitors the electricity grid throughout California, has issued a Flex Alert for July 1-2 in Northern California.

Due to the continued heat wave and subsequent rise in air conditioner use, electricity conservation is critical to prevent blackouts. It's important that you:

  • Turn off all unnecessary lights
  • Postpone using major appliances until after 6:00 pm
  • If you must use an air conditioner, adjust it up to 78 degrees or higher
