Politics & Government

99%er Day Of Action

Make Wall Street Pay, Enact a Fair Tax System,
$ Out of Politics, Respect for Worker’s Rights to Bargain

Our actions mold public opinion which is the ultimate determining factor in a democracy.

The Dublin 99%er action includes the host/organizer TriValley/Central Contra Costa MoveOn chapters, those LOCKED OUT by the Castlewood Country Club, those who oppose Walmart Neighborhood Groceries in Pleasanton & San Ramon, the Clean Money Campaign (money out of politics) , the Alliance of Californian's for Community Empowerment (they work directly with victims of foreclosure), other groups and individuals.  This action is part of a National Day of Action on Thursday March 15, 11AM to noon at 7496 Dublin Blvd is in front of B of A in Dublin.  The 99%ers will march past Chase, Citibank, and Wells Fargo in order to keep up the pressure on the big banks to honor the deal they made to negotiate new loans.

The mix of those participating in these actions is growing.  The goal of these actions is to keep our issues of economic and political inequality on the front burner and in the public’s mind.  The particular issues of the different groups are related as they reflect the concerns of the 99%ers and a have similar basic cause; the corporate abuses of Wall Street which continue to damage the economy and those negatively affected:

  • Homeowners whose efforts to refinance are frustrated
  • Those unemployed who can’t find jobs
  • Unions attacked on pension, benefits and organizing rights
  • Kids living in cars
  • Super PACs dominating the political discussions with obscene spending, taking 99% of voters out of the discourse
  • The super rich avoiding paying their fair share,  putting an unfair burden on regular tax payers causing cuts in local and state budgets & programs vital to the most vulnerable
  • Local supermarkets and small businesses threatened to be put out of business by a Big Corporation  which is anti-union, pays minimum wage, and whose employees are on public assistance
  • An entire planet impoverished by banks that are “Too big to fail” and bankers who are “Too rich to jail” in the biggest HEIST in human history

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?

The reasons for our actions go beyond Wall St. crime to the heart of our democratic system.  American 99%ers are confronted with the corporatocracy America has become.  Corporations protect their power and wealth by using their money to lobby for their interests.  They have kept wages down, diminishing the middle class, and they are attacking unions in order to further gain control of the working class and those in political power.

Banks and corporations are manmade creations which should serve the people of America.  Instead corporations have become profit hungry sharks with little social conscience, remorse or regard for the damage they reap.  A corporation should serve four groups: the workers & managers, the customers, the public and the owners.  In the last 30 years the owners have grabbed an increasingly large share of the corporate pie.  The needs of customers, workers and the public increasingly suffer.

The Dublin action will be only one of many actions throughout America working for a change in values— away from greed and unfairness— to include community, empathy, responsibility and courage, a change from corporate controlled governance to a real democracy which represents the people.

If these are your values please join us in announcing it to the community.  If you have been hurt by the economic repercussions of corporate corruption and greed, please join us and tell your story. The media wants to know about you.  Please distribute this invitation to your lists.
