Abram Wilson a No-Go, Mayor Bill Clarkson Runs Unopposed

Was Wilson's move to run in the November Election last month a statement or was it ever a possibility?

Despite Former Mayor Abram Wilson taking out nomination papers in July for November's election, the deadline has passed and Mayor Bill Clarkson will run unopposed, according to a Contra Costa Times article.

It's unclear whether Wilson's move to run was ever viable, given the that city charter clearly prohibits anyone from serving more than two terms as mayor.

"I took out papers to express my discontent with the mayor," Wilson said in the article.

Some San Ramon residents expressed their dismay at Wilson's attempt for re-election in July.

"I guess he thinks rules and laws are just for other people (like so many other politicians!)," commented Ron Johnson.

"This is why we have black-letter term limits, so this type of posturing doesn't happen. He needs to let it go," commented user Paddington.

City Council hopefuls have until 5 p.m. Wednesday, August 14 to submit their papers. With Council Member Jim Livingstone not running for re-election, there are two seats to be filled come November.

What do you think about Wilson flirting with the idea of running for mayor in November? Is it best that Mayor Bill Clarkson will run unopposed? Leave your thoughts in a comment.
