Contra Costa Health Services reported a second case of human infection by the West Nile virus for this year.
The second case, reported on Twitter late Thursday, is an East County female who is listed as "recovering." The county health department has a list of human cases per year since 2005 on its website.
The onset date of the second infection is Aug. 3. The first reported human infection, a female from Central County, is listed as recovered with an onset date of Aug. 9.
Thirty-seven human infections, including two fatal cases, have been reported in the county since 2005.
West Nile virus is spread by mosquitos. Health officials advise wearing repellant and eliminating standing water.
