Would-Be Carjacker Thwarted by Protective Mother

Rex Ganoe was arrested after allegedly trying to carjack a woman in the Wendy's drive-through

Rex Ganoe, 39, was arrested on Saturday after police say he tried to carjack a mother and her two young children while they were in the drive-through in Dublin.

According to Lt. Steve Brown, a citizen flagged a Dublin Police unit in the area of Village Parkway and Dublin Boulevard to report a man had just fled after a collision on the freeway.

"Additional witnesses in the area reported that Ganoe had tried to get into their vehicles," said Brown. "One citizen reported that she had been in the Wendy's drive-through when Ganoe opened her driver's side door and demanded she take him to the hospital. The woman was afraid because her two young children were also in the car. She pulled her keys out of the ignition and was able to fight off Ganoe who fled."

Brown said the Dublin officers found and detained Ganoe and during their encounter with him, got word that he had just been involved in a stolen vehicle pursuit with San Ramon police.

"Due to public safety concerns, San Ramon police officers terminated the pursuit because Ganoe was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of I-680," Brown commented. "San Ramon Police are handling the stolen vehicle and pursuit charges and CHP is handling the hit-and-run collision."

Ganoe is being held at the in Dublin.

I was in the Kentucky Fried Chicken drive way when this same man ran screaming "Help m,e help me please" from Wendy's. I almost rolled down my window to ask what he needed, but he grabbed my car door handle and shook it violently trying to get inside. I am lucky It was locked. He kept on running . I am so thankful the police were already at the front of Kentucky Fried as the man was captured and in handcuffs as I rounded the driveway.. That mom was so brave and I am sure she is shaken. Afterwards, I wondered what I would have done had he gotten in my car. I hope no one was injured by this man. Thank you to our Dublin Police AND to the citizen who got involved and got help!!!!

There are some real crazies (and other dark souls) running around amongst us. As a people watcher since I was a little girl, I'm just always very aware of my surroundings. Keeping my car doors locked is my number one driving rule. Glad this Mom and her children are ok. Even in this area of low crime, you just have to be ready for the unthinkable.

So so proud of you, thanks for possibly saving the lives of our children and your own. To the man and woman in the Audi behind the vehicle who did nothing...KARMA is a b***
