Equipment Failure Kills Power for More Than 5,000 PG&E Customers Tuesday Evening

All but 15 customers had their power restored before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, but oil from the broken transformer leaked onto a car, setting it on fire.

A broken Pacific Gas & Electricity transformer cut power to more than 5,100 customers Tuesday evening, and oil from the failed equipment leaked onto a car, setitng it on fire.

The utility company restored electricity to all but 15 customers by 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, an hour after the energy supply shut down. The remaining 15 customers went without power until after midnight, according to PG&E spokesman Matt Nauman.

The transformer, which has since been repaired, is locaed at Boxford Place and Pine Valley Road.
