S.F. Giants Outfielder's Brother Delays Entering Plea in Felony DUI, Hit-and-Run Case

Cainan Schierholtz appeared in court today for a few minutes, where his attorney asked for more time to review the case before having the San Ramon man enter a plea.

MARTINEZ – In a brief hearing this morning, Cainan Schierholtz, the 23-year-old San Ramon man charged with a slew of hit-and-run felonies, delayed entering a plea until Oct. 14.

Schierholtz–younger brother to San Francisco Giants outfielder Nate Schierholtz–is charged with a felony DUI with injuries, three counts of felony hit-and-run with injuries and one misdemeanor hit-and-run for a series of crashes along Danville Boulevard and Railroad Avenue on Aug. 15.

Police say he struck a bicyclist, pedestrian, a truck, an SUV and a light pole, though no one was seriously hurt.

He appeared in a Martinez courtroom today for the few-minute proceeding clad in yellow jail garb and seated behind a glass partition with other inmates. He only spoke to affirm that he understood his right to a speedy trial and that he agrees to waive that right so attorneys have more time to study the evidence.

Schierholtz remains locked up in the West County Detention Facility in Richmond with his bail set to $200,000.
