The San Ramon Police Department has the second best SWAT team on the West Coast, according to the results of this year's "Best in the West" competition recently.
San Ramon's SWAT team beat 28 other teams, with only Las Vegas Police Department SWAT team finishing with a better score.
"Best in the West," hosted by the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office, challenged 29 SWAT teams with seven events, including a jungle trail course, sniper course, physical challenge stage, hostage rescue course, assault course, combined weapons course and vehicle assault course. All events are live-fire, using real ammunition.
San Ramon finished fifth overall in the jungle trail, third overall in the vehicle assault and second overall in the team sniper competition.
"While the competition is intense, Best in the West is a multi-jurisdictional learning experience which develops positive relationships among SWAT teams and serves as a workshop to share techniques, equipment, and improve performance," according to the Santa Clara Sheriff's Office.
