Antonio Faraz Rad, 19, is due in court Sept. 24 for further arraignment.

A man accused of shooting at somoene who tried to sell him a couple iPods in a Pleasanton parking lot last month will be arraigned next week on charges of attempted murder and burglary as well as on older charges of felony vandalism.

Antonio Faraz Rad, 19, appeared in court for a few-minute proceeding Tuesday behind a barrier in the back of the courtroom wearing a yellow jail suit, glasses and shackles around his ankles

His private attorney, Livermore-based Melissa Adams, joined him at the hearing, where a judge combined Rad's year-old vandalism charges with the newer case related to the August shooting.

Rad was ordered to return to court on Sept. 24 to enter a plea in connection with both cases.

Police say Rad fired off two bullets at a 23-year-old Fremont man and stole his iPods last month. Authorities said one of the bullets came inches away from killing the victim, who got away unhurt.

Rad–a Diablo Valley College business and political science major–faces charges of second-degree robbery, attempted murder and an enhancement for committing felonies while out on bail. The vandalism charge stemmed from a Jan. 14 outing last year, when police say Rad and a couple buddies went to downtown Pleasanton and smashed up an Escalade.

Rad remains at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, where's held in lieu of a $510,000 bail.

Rad's father, Pleasanton-based lawyer Peyman Rad, told San Ramon Patch his son is a straight-A student and that at least some of the charges are unjustified.
