San Ramon Police Encourage National Night Out Participation

National Night Out hopes to generate support for anti-crime programs and strengthen neighborhoods. It takes place on Aug. 7.

From the San Ramon Police Department

The City of wants you to mark your calendars for a very special event on Tuesday Aug. 7.

The 29th Annual National Night Out is an event to generate support for local anti-crime programs and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. It is a wonderful way to get to know your neighbors, find out what is going on in your neighborhood, and get a visit from police officers, city officials and the fire department.

National Night Out is designed to fight crime and prevent drugs in neighborhoods. This event is usually celebrated by neighborhoods turning their porch lights on, locking their doors and joining their neighbors outside for a block party, potluck, or ice cream social.

Last year’s event involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. Territories, Canadian Cities and military bases worldwide. In all, 37 million people participated in National Night Out in 2011.

On National Night Out police officers, city officials and the fire department will visit any block party that is registered with the San Ramon Police Department to talk about crime prevention, neighborhood concerns and pass out fun stuff to the kids.

What a great way to get acquainted with your neighbors and heroes that protect you every day.

So get your neighbors together and schedule yours today. To register a block party or ask questions regarding the event in San Ramon contact Darlene Kittredge at 925-973-2720 or dkittredge@sanramon.ca.gov.

For further information visit the official National Night Out website.
