Property Crimes Down, Violent Crimes Up in San Ramon

Numbers for property and violent crimes for 2012 were released this week by the FBI.

San Ramon, a mostly-safe community police in the East Bay, reported 45 violent crimes in 2012; an increase of the 27 violent crimes reported in 2011.

The number of property crimes decreased slightly, from 869 in 2011 to 850 last year.

The numbers were released this week by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which reported a nationwide increase of violent crimes and a decrease of property crimes after compiling crime data from 18,000 jurisdictions in 50 states.

The FBI's Uniform Crime Reports also included the number of police officers in the nation’s police departments. San Ramon has .07 sworn officer for every 1,000 residents. The East Bay average is at 1.2.
