Police Thwart Would-Be Radio Shack Burglar

An officer was at the right place at the right time to catch suspect.

A would-be burglar was thwarted when an officer doing a routine patrol check noticed a broken window at a downtown business.

At around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Livermore Police Sgt. Jason Boberg spotted broken glass at the Radio Shack on 1518 First Street, near Orchard Supply Hardware and Safeway.

Boberg decided to check the area after several burglary reports this past month at Radio Shack stores in the Tri-Valley, Sgt. Erin Cole said.

Police then stop a man standing nearby and developed probable cause to search him and his vehicle, Cole said.

"We found evidence giving reason to believe he was the one responsible for the broken glass and that it was his intent to burglarize the store," Cole said.

Police found empty, oversized duffle and carrying bags inside the suspect's vehicle, and later found the man possessed directions to that particular Radio Shack store.

Officers then arrested the man, identified as 32-year-old Daniel Prescott of Castro Valley.

Wednesday's arrest follows a late Tuesday bust of a Nob Hill Foods robbery.

YOU are an idiot. How do you equate something that happened on a Wednesday with a Monday? What makes your feeble mind think that LPD is doing a speed trap on 580? Don't you think they have better things to do, like take care of crime INSIDE the city?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion so say what you will about LPD. I support them and say, NICE JOB LPD!

Sounds like someone is a lead foot. Perhaps some self control would allow you to meet less officers in your travels. So much for the old saying of "Where's a cop when you need one?" Great job LPD. You're the difference between this place becoming the next Milpitas or Fremont.

Sgt Boberg is a solid cop. He was on the show "on the case with Paula Zahn" this week. He helped solve the Cassetteri homicide. It airs again Sunday at 3 Pm if you missed it.
