Man Critically Injured by Falling Traffic Light

A driver of a tractor-trailer knocked down a traffic light pole at the Crow Canyon Road and Camino Ramon intersection, causing the traffic light to strike a man's head.

A 23-year-old man is in critical condition at John Muir Medical Center after he was struck by a traffic light that was knocked down by a tractor-trailer, according to San Ramon traffic officer Bill Doherty.

The incident happened near the Crow Canyon Road and Camino Ramon intersection on Monday at about 1:35 p.m. The driver of the tractor-trailer was turning too sharply right from Crow Canyon onto Camino Ramon when it struck the traffic light pole, knocking it down.

The pedestrian was waiting to cross the street on his way back to work when the traffic light came crashing down and hit him in the head.

Patch received multiple emails from witnesses saying they saw the man bloodied after the incident.

The accident is still under investigation, but no arrests are expected, Dougherty said.
