Man Commits Suicide in Downtown Danville Parking Lot

Man hung himself in Rose Avenue parking lot, police said.

A man in his early 20s killed himself Friday afternoon in a public parking lot on Rose Avenue in Danville, according to Danville Police Chief Steve Simpkins.

Danville police received a call at 1:30 p.m. Friday from a citizen who drove into the parking lot at the end of Rose Avenue and saw what looked like a man leaning against a fence in a strange way.

When officers arrived, it was not immediately clear from a distance that the man was dead, and his feet were on the ground. But when officers got closer, they discovered his circulation had been cut off at his neck and he had died.

Notes have been left in the parking lot where the man was found, with one saying, "You will always have a place in our hearts. See you at the pearly gates homie."

Because , they're not something Patch routinely reports on, except when they occur in public places.

Patch has talked with family members of the deceased, but will not post his name to respect their privacy.

His mother told Patch, "Suicide did not kill my son. His illness did."

Suicide hotlines can be reached at 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.
