Man Accused of Downloading Child Porn Due in Court Thursday

Michael Vawter will get assigned a date for his preliminary hearing.

A former Danville Cub Scout leader accused of downloading child pornography is due in court Thursday to set a date for a preliminary hearing.

Michael Vawter, 40, pleaded not guilty a month ago to a felony charge for allegedly using a peer-to-peer file-sharing software to obtain child porn. He was arrested in March, but remains free after posting $20,000 bail.

Once Vawter schedules a preliminary hearing, the next step will be for Contra Costa County Deputy District Attorney Dana Filkowsky to present the case before a judge, who will decide if there's enough evidence to go to trial.
