"He's Not Our Guy": Police Clear Former Bank Robbery Suspect

San Ramon police say Gregory Cunha is no longer a suspect in the May 14 robbery of the Fremont Bank

San Ramon police have cleared Gregory Cunha, 45, originally suspected of robbing the Fremont Bank in San Ramon on March 14.

"It looks like he's not our guy," said San Ramon police Stg. Eric Webb."It looks like this guy didn't do it and it's enough for us to release him."

Webb said Cunha, arrested March 18 in Washingon, did not give a statement about his whereabouts initially but later told police that he was in a Washington grocery store at the time of the San Ramon robbery.

"The detective checked the video at the grocery [store] and he was there," said Webb. "It's just as important for us to identify innocent people as it is guilty parties," said Webb.

San Ramon police detective Bill Doherty said he is in Washington waiting for the court there to officially release Cunha.

Webb said they have no leads on new suspects for the Fremont Bank robbery.
