San Ramon Valley Firefighters along with San Ramon Police Officers and Cal High faculty and students “took it all off”, hair that is, during their lunch hour today, March 20 in the Cal High quad.

J.J., a San Ramon resident, is 5-years-old and a two-time brain cancer survivor. His amazing story of strength and spirit sparked the event.

“When J.J.’s mom called the Fire District to ask us to participate in the St. Baldrick’s Shave for the Brave fundraiser, we jumped at the opportunity to support their effort and this amazing little boy,” said Erik Falkenstrom, San Ramon Valley Fire Captain.  “We are honored to partner with San Ramon Police and the administration at Cal High to increase awareness around childhood cancers.”

J.J. and his family rode to the event in a San Ramon Valley Fire engine, driven by off duty firefighters who came in on their day off to support the event.  The fire engine was escorted by San Ramon Police.

J.J. was presented with a “special superhero cape” complete with the San Ramon Valley Fire logo donated by the “capes4hero” organization.

“We are so overwhelmed by the support and generosity,” said Holly Moisa, J.J.’s mom.  “This will be a day our family will never forget.”

Over 60 Police Officers and Firefighters were on hand with J.J. and his family to watch the hair fall.  Eight volunteer hairdressers from Sports Clips in San Ramon did the honors.

All donations from today’s event went directly to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, whose mission is to end childhood cancers.
