Fatal Accident Took Place Less Than 3 Miles From Arrested Lawyer's San Ramon Home

Neighbors react to the arrest of Spencer Freeman Smith, the San Ramon resident arrested in connection with Tuesday night's fatal hit and run crash.

The San Ramon man arrested in suspicion of killing Bo Hu in a hit and run accident on Tuesday night lives less than three miles from the accident site.

Spencer Freeman Smith, 32, an employment lawyer in San Francisco, was arrested at his Baker Way home on Thursday night by Dublin police detectives and booked at on charges of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and felony hit-and-run.

Smith's home on Baker Way is located 2.7 miles from where Hu was killed at the intersection of Dougherty Road and Fall Creek Way in Dublin.

Neighbors said they saw police cars at Smith's home on Thursday night and a tow truck take a black Mercedes out of the garage.

Arnold Santiago, who lives on Baker Way, said he didn't know the Smith family well but that they have lived in the neighborhood "for quite awhile."

Neighbor Danny Lim said that Smith's home was active, with large gatherings taking place about twice a month with seven or eight cars in front of the house.

Patch knocked on Smith's front door but there was no answer.

According to the Smith's firm website, Smith "has earned a reputation for being one of the top young employment litigators in Northern California."

He was admitted to the State Bar of Califronia in 2005. He has an undergraduate degree from Xavier University and graduated from law school at the University of Cincinnati College of Law.
