Emergency Siren Test to Take Place on New Year's Day

By Bay City News Service

Contra Costa County's Community Warning System will conduct its monthly siren test Wednesday at 11 a.m., officials said Tuesday.

While the test is conducted every month on the first Wednesday of the month, officials fear it could cause confusion this month because it falls on the New Year's Day holiday, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.

"We are anticipating more people being at home and therefore more people hearing the sirens than usual-many of whom may not be used to hearing them and becoming concerned that there is an actual emergency," sheriff's office officials said in a statement.
