CHP Stop Leads in Oakland To Major Drugs, Weapons Bust in San Ramon

By Derek Wilson

The California Highway Patrol and Oakland Police discovered an arsenal of high-powered weapons and drugs in a San Ramon home recently.

CHP officers working an Operation Cease Fire assignment in Oakland on Friday, June 21stopped the driver of a white 1992 Lexus (SC400) for a license plate violation at 10 p.m. The driver, identified as Dion Dontae Moses, was judged to be impaired.

Officers searched the car and found a loaded semi-automatic handgun in the waistband of Moses' pants. The officers also found in the car a fully-automatic high-powered rifle, several high-capacity magazines, body armor, marijuana, more than $1,000 in cash and items "consistent with those used to commit other crimes." Moses was arrested for impaired driving, drugs and weapons violations.

Following further investigation, the CHP and Oakland Police searched Moses' San Ramon home, where they found and seized five fully-automatic high-powered rifles, one semi-automatic handgun, multiple high-capacity magazines (containing more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition), cocaine and approximately $6,000 in cash.
