49ers' Aldon Smith of San Ramon Says He Has a Bomb at LAX, Gets Arrested

He was arrested when he became uncooperative.

San Francisco 49ers football player Aldon Smith was arrested at a Los Angeles International Airport checkpoint today after he allegedly made a comment about having a bomb as he was undergoing security screening, an airport police sergeant said.

It happened about 2 p.m. in Terminal 1, said Los Angeles Airport police Sgt. Karen Ortiz.

Smith, 24, who resides in San Ramon, was approached by airport police in the gate area after he made the comment and was arrested when he became uncooperative, Ortiz said.

The linebacker was booked at the Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Station on suspicion of making a false report of a bomb threat, she said.

He was being held in lieu of $20,000 bail, according to sheriff's online booking records.

According to media reports, Smith is already facing charges of possession of illegal assault weapons and a lawsuit filed by a man who says he was shot at a party at Smith's house. Both cases date back to 2012, when Smith was also arrested on suspicion of DUI in Miami.
